Lagos is now going to be a megacity. Under the able leadership of Governor Babatunde Fashola, the apostle of good governance, Lagos is undergoing a major makeover.

The Atlantic Ocean will be banished, to be replaced by Eko Atlantic; a shimmering new 3.5- mile island built literally on the water behind a “great wall of Lagos.” Greenery has suddenly appeared in Lagos, displacing the concrete jungle. There are now parks with manicured lawns. There are now tree-lined roads. Pot-holes are now being tarred. Sidewalks are now provided for pedestrians.

In the middle of this transformation, a new immigration department has been opened in Lagos. “Illegal aliens” are being expelled and are shipped back to their homelands in the dead of night. New visitors may have to obtain visas to come here.
All this makes it imperative to determine who exactly is the Lagosian? Who is entitled to enjoy the new amenities that Governor Fashola and his team of dedicated public-servants are bringing to Lagos? Accordingly, a battle royal has emerged for the rightful ownership of Lagos. Some are insisting Lagos is no man’s land.

TRAGEDY: Newly Wed Couple Perish Few Days After Wedding

A newly married couple, Francis Edeh and Ann, along with two others died in a car crash, weekend on the Ugep-Abakaliki Road.

Francis and Ann, from Ebonyi State and resident in Calabar, Cross River State, were heading to Abakaliki to thank family members, who attended their wedding the previous Saturday, September 7, in Calabar.

When they got to Amudo village, some 30 kilometres to Abakiliki, their vehicle developed an electrical fault prompting them to seek the services of an auto electrician.

Eggon/Alago Clash: NYSC Evacuates Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has evacuated corps members serving in areas affected by the recent communal crisis in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, an official has said.
Mrs Olabanji Bolanle, the Coordinator of the scheme in the state, told newsmen on Monday in Lafia that the affected corps members were now taking refuge at the various NYSC lodges in Lafia, the state capital.

Bolanle said that the corps members would remain in such lodges until the restoration of normalcy in the affected areas.

Two Students Docked For Possession Of Dangerous Weapons, Charms During Students’ Election

Two students were on Monday arraigned before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly being in possession of dangerous weapons and charms.
The police prosecutor, Insp Abiodun Fagboyinbo, told the court that the accused – Oyebanji Amos, 20; and Atilola Lukman, 22, were arrested during routine security check.

Fagboyinbo told the court that the accused were caught with the dangerous items on Sunday at about 10.15 a.m.  at the NUJ Secretariat in Osogbo,  venue of the National Association of Osun Students election.

20 Arrested By JTF Over Oil Theft

Operatives of the Joint Task Force. JTF, codenamed Operation Pulo Shield have arrested five Nigerians and a foreigner from Republic of Benin, alleged to be specialists in sourcing for illegally distilled petroleum products in the Niger Delta area.

Confirming the arrests yesterday in Yenegoa, Bayelsa State, spokesman of JTF, Lt. Col. Onyema Nwachukwu, said the suspects were apprehended by men of the 3 Battalion of the task force during a patrol in Opodibobo creek near Escravos in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to Lt. Col Nwachukwu, the cartel was smashed during one of the anti-oil theft operations carried out by the battalion.

11 Suspected Boko Haram Members Arrested In Adamawa

   

11 suspected Boko Haram members have been arrested in Michika, Adamawa State, Commanding Officer of Special Operation Battalion, Mubi, Lt.- Col Beyidi Martins, yesterday, confirmed.

Speaking to newsmen in Yola, Adamawa State, Beyidi said the suspects were arrested on Saturday by men of the battalion and JTF from Maiduguri, Borno State, with the assistance of the Civilian JTF.

A three-storey building under construction at No 16 Nnobi Street, Uwani, Enugu collapsed on Saturday.
No casualty had been recorded at the incident.

A man was arrested, charged and convicted after having sex with a goat, according to court proceedings in the United Kingdom.

Now, a British man, who admitted to having sex with a goat several months ago, was sentenced to six weeks in jail on Thursday. He was also banned from entering facilities that hold animals.

Robert Newman, 23, who sexually assaulted the goat in an animal barn in Devizes Wiltshire, initially denied the charge of having sex with a live animal, but then changed his plea and admitted the attack.

4 Persons Struck Dead By Thunder In Nasarawa

Tragedy struck at Mechanic Village in Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, when four persons were killed on Friday as thunder struck

According to a witness, the incident occurred at Bukan-Sidi around 7:05 p.m. when the four men were about leaving their workshop following a downpour.

The witness said further that when the deceased noticed that it was about to rain, they decided to lock up their workshop and go home, but before they could leave the workshop thunder struck, killing them instantly.

Agagu Was Hypertensive, Son Says

First son of the late Dr Olusegun Agagu, a former governor of Ondo State, on Saturday said his father was hypertensive.

Agagu, who returned from United States on Thursday, reportedly slumped in Ikoyi, Lagos, where he was having a meeting with Ondo indigenes on Friday evening.

Mr Feyi Agagu said, “He just had a medical examination, which showed that he had a little cholesterol, and was hypertensive. There is diabetics in our family, but it’s nothing major; it was just something he had been dealing with for the past 10 to 15 years. So, there was no inkling that something was about to happen,” Agagu said.

Kidnapped Anglican Archbishop Regains Freedom

The Dean of the Anglican Church of Nigeria, Archbishop Ignatius Kattey has regained his freedom from kidnappers’ den.

Kattey, who was abducted along with his wife, Beatrice last week Friday along Aleto-Eleme in Eleme Local Government Area of River States but she was later dropped off, was freed on Saturday night.

Confirming the development, the Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Angela Agabe said the clergyman was rescued by the police and other security forces.

Man Stands Trial For Raping His Own Mother In Ekiti State

A 27 year old man, Akintunde Omoteinde, is currently standing trial for allegedly raping his own mother. According to a report by Punch, the sick incident happened on August 23 at their residence at the Ajebamidele area of Ado Ekiti in Ekiti State.

A resident of the area who spoke with a Punch reporter said:

“The news was shocking. Not many of us believed the story at first but the truth cannot be hidden for too long. The woman, a petty trader, was said to have been raped by her son. She was badly injured and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.
"I can tell you that the family is presently living in shame. We hear that the family members are planning to move out of the house but we cannot confirm that.”

Police say, 49-year-old Christopher Jackson from Arizona, allegedly used a branding tool and a butane torch to burn the initials “CJ” onto his girlfriend while she was unconscious.

Although the incident reportedly happened in May, the victim came forward just recently claiming she was too scared to come before.

Olusegun Agagu, Former Ondo Governor Is Dead

Dr. Olusegun Kokumo Agagu, the immediate past governor of Ondo State is dead.

Agagu reportedly slumped and died in his House in Ibadan, Oyo State, yesterday afternoon after returning from a trip to United States. Another source said he died in his Ikoyi residence, in Lagos.

Agagu, a senior member of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, was to meet with President Goodluck Jonathan next week along with some elders of the party from the South West on the lingering crisis in the Party.

Man Comes Home Early To Find Girlfriend, 43, Running Naked From His 13-Year-Old Son’s Room

A woman betrayed her boyfriend in the worst way possible when she had sex with his teenage son.

Pamela Fahy, 43, of Winona, Minnesota, was a special education teacher, who worked at the La Crecent-Hokah School District.

She has been arrested after her boyfriend caught her running from his 13-year-old son’s room.

The boyfriend told police that he returned home earlier than usual on Sunday morning, only to find his girlfriend, Fahy, who was naked from the waist down, running out of his teenage son’s room.

‘I Feel So Honoured’ – Funke Akindele Appointed Polio Ambassador

Renowned actress and movie producer, Funke Akindele (Jenifa) has been appointed a Polio Ambassador by the Rotary Club International. Jenifa will help Rotary achieve its goal of a polio-free world in a new public awareness campaign called “this close” by raising her thumb and forefinger in the “this close”gesture in the ad tagline “we’re this close to ending polio”.

“I feel so honored to be part of a charitable cause like this. I accepted this appointment because polio kills or paralyzes children and Rotary is committed to ending this terrible disease worldwide. I also learned that the world has never been so close to eradication of polio since the mid 80’s thanks to the vigorous efforts of Rotary International and its partners,” she said.
