Armed Robbers Storm Lagos Neighbourhood, Rape Lady, Shoot Several Residents
Two students of YABATECH were recently shot during a robbery incident at their residence in Bariga area of Lagos.
According to the occupants, a gang of armed men numbering about 14 stormed Awofodu Street and Ajiun Street at the Lady Lak area of Bariga, robbing the residents and raping a lady in the process.
At Awofodu Street, the hoodlums collected phones, money and two laptops, then they moved to Ajiun street where they also collected mobiles, jewellery and cash.
In the process, they shot a student, Seun Sanusi, in the leg before they robbed him. Another student, Olarewanju Ikotun, who was lying close to Sanusi when the robbers shot him, got hit by a pellet. The photo of one of the resident’s bullet wound became available for the reporters:
As the armed robbers made their escape, they snatched the key of the apartment and locked the door.
Other occupants of the house called the police who took Sanusi to the hospital, where he was admitted. The bullet was later extracted at a traditional medicine home.
Narrating the incident, Sanusi said: “At about 1 a.m., the robbers barged into the room and they started slapping everybody. They started asking for gold chains, phones and laptops. I was having a good night sleep when they slapped me on my bed and ordered me to lie face down.
“Next thing, a guy shot me. I became unconscious and I learnt the police came and took me to the hospital. They stole my Blackberry Bold 5 phone and they stole laptops and collected money.”
Following the incident, the officers at the Pedro police station arrested one Azeez for being in possession of Sanusi’s stolen BlackBerry Bold 5.
Azeez, according to the police source, was lured to the Tantalizers Eatery at Palmgroove area of the state with the aid of the BB pin.
Azeez, however, confessed to the police that he bought the phone from his boss at Mowe in Ogun state.
The police arrested Azeez’s boss and two others but released them after investigation revealed that they were not connected to the robbery.
The police are still working to catch the armed robbers who perpetrated the act.

Jamina Briggs, 29, also told officers who arrived at her home on Wednesday night that she was sorry about the stabbings, according to an affidavit of complaint.
Officers arrested Briggs after they found the boys, 6-year-old Nicholas Briggs and 23-month-old Jeremiah Briggs, lying face down on a couch with multiple stab wounds. The boys died at a hospital.
Briggs was charged with first-degree murder Thursday. She has a criminal record that includes two guilty pleas for domestic assault for fights she had with her mother and boyfriend.

"She said she is paranoid schizophrenic and the voices told her to do it," the affidavit said.
Later when officers arrived at the home, Briggs "answered the door and told officers she was sorry."
"She had blood on her hands," the affidavit said.

Drogba Ruins Arsenal’s Party
Didier Drogba returned to haunt Arsenal as the Ivory Coast striker scored both goals in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory in the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
Drogba made a habit of scoring against Arsene Wenger’s team when he was at Chelsea and, after appearing as a half-time substitute, his strikes overturned Theo Walcott’s first half opener and ensured the Turkish team won the four-team pre-season tournament.
SWEET VICTORY: Drogba with the Emirates Cup Sunday. AFP.
Wenger’s men paid the price at their Emirates Stadium for failing to make the most of early pressure and Drogba’s contribution highlighted just why Wenger is trying to add Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to his squad.
With the pursuit of Suarez having so far failed despite Arsenal making a bid over £40 million for the Uruguay international, France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo is the only pre-season addition to Wenger’s squad.
Sanogo’s inclusion in the starting line-up attracted much of the attention following Wenger’s claims the youngster was a “top class” striker who would surprise many this season.
And the former Auxerre youngster was handed an immediate opportunity to make an impression when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dispossessed Semih Kaya and picked out his unmarked team-mate in the visitors’ penalty area.
Sanogo made room for a left foot shot but was unable to find a way past Fernando Muslera, Galatasaray’s Uruguayan goalkeeper.
The youngster again found himself free inside the Galatasaray area shortly before half time following an intricate passing move and was spared by the offside flag after his tame shot had again been saved by Muslera.
In between those openings Arsenal largely dominated the first half, appearing sharper than they had in a 2-2 draw against Napoli the previous day.
A strong appeal for a penalty was turned down when Aaron Ramsey went tumbling early on before Walcott failed to make the most of a 19th minute opportunity after being picked out by an accurate long ball from Ramsey.
Walcott controlled the ball well to take him away from Albert Riera but his clip over the advancing Muslera drifted wide.
Fortune, however, was on Walcott’s side when he made the 39th minute breakthrough.
Finding himself in space on the left hand flank, Walcott whipped in a right-footed cross that drifted between Muslera and his Galatasaray’s defensive line before creeping inside the far post.
Arsenal’s half-time lead was deserved but the introduction of Drogba and Wesley Sneijder at the interval lifted the visitors, who immediately looked more threatening as Nordin Amarabat forced Wojciech Szczesny into a save at his near post.
Olivier Giroud appeared for Arsenal in place of Sanogo and twice forced saves from Muslera.
But Drogba was always likely to make his presence felt and the forward struck his 78th minute spot-kick past Szczesny after going to ground following the slightest of touches from young Arsenal defender Ignasi Miguel.
And the Ivorian – who scored 15 goals in 15 appearances for Chelsea against Arsenal – sealed the victory with an excellent piece of one-touch control and a fine left foot finish in the 87th minute.
Earlier Porto had romped to a 3-1 victory over Rafael Benitez’s Napoli.
Goran Pandev had given Napoli a 43rd minute lead from the penalty spot but Benitez’s side were unable to hold on.
Second half goals from Nabil Ghilas and Lica, either side of an own goal from Federico Fernandez, did the damage for Porto.
Couple Weds With Dying Son As Best Man [PHOTOS]
Pennsylvania couple Christine Swidorsky and Sean Stevenson tied the knot in a bittersweet backyard ceremony that was not only a celebration of their marriage, but a celebration honoring life of their two-year-old son — and best man — Logan who doctors say doesn’t have long to live. WPXI’s Brandon
Looking dapper in a tiny tan pinstripe suit and orange shirt, a 2-year-old boy with only weeks to live served as the best man Saturday afternoon for his parents’ Pennsylvania wedding.
Christine Swidorsky carried Logan Stevenson on her shoulder at the Saturday afternoon wedding in Jeannette, a suburb of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported.
Logan stood with his grandmother, Debbie Stevenson, during a 12-minute ceremony uniting Logan’s mother and his father, Sean Stevenson. The boy has leukemia and other complications.
“We’re married,” Swidorsky exclaimed joyously after kissing her groom to applause from family and friends.
After a whirlwind week, the Jeannette couple tied the knot in a hastily arranged backyard ceremony that formalized their union and celebrated Logan’s life, which doctors say will be cut short soon by cancer.
The Stevensons abandoned an original wedding date of July 2014 after learning from doctors late last month that their son had two to three weeks to live. The couple wanted Logan to see them marry and to be part of family photos.
Logan dozed off and on during the ceremony, nestled on his grandmother’s shoulder, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. Debbie Stevenson said he is on medication to make him comfortable, but it also makes him sleepy.
Swidorsky’s mother died six years ago and her father died just two months ago, the newspaper said.
Logan, who was born Oct. 22, 2010, was diagnosed shortly after his first birthday with acute myeloid leukemia. He has Fanconi anemia, a rare disease that often leads to cancer.
He endured a stem cell transplant in July 2012. Last March, he underwent surgery to remove a kidney ravaged by a tumor.
During a Make-A-Wish trip to Disney World in June, Logan fell ill. He was hospitalized in Florida before he was flown back to Pittsburgh.
During a trip to the emergency room last month, a test revealed a mass in his remaining kidney, which led to his terminal prognosis. Logan is spending his remaining days at home, where he is showered with attention from family members.
Swidorsky’s daughter, Isabella Johns, 13, served as bridesmaid and the couple’s 1-year-old daughter, Savannah, was her parents’ flower girl.
“This is our dream come true,” Swidorsky said through tears, the Post-Gazette reported.

The human skulls, a male and a female head, were discovered after the Nigerian police raided the hotel following a tip off. Mr Mokwe has been arrested along with 10 other people. Continue...
His wife, Mrs Nkiru Mokwe, a lawyer, has appealed to president Jonathan to save her husband's life claiming he was set up. She said the whole thing was a set up and the human heads planted in the hotel by people who wanted to destroy her husband.
“My husband is being detained in a very dehumanising condition at SARS, Awkuzu, and the police have denied him access to his lawyer and relations." She said "My husband’s hotel at No 8, Old Market Road, Onitsha which he inherited from his father, Chief G.C Mokwe, has been demolished"

My Problem With P0rn Star, Afrocandy – Uche Ogbodo
Uche Ogbodo and Harrysong kissing
Nollywood actress, Uche Ogbodo, tells ’Nonye Ben-Nwankwo about her career and life
All of a sudden, you are seen in many movies unlike before. Why are movie, producers courting you now?
Are they really courting me? Well, I don’t think I work more than other actresses. I know that my spirit and my zeal to do better in my job have pushed me further. That I am everywhere is just because I am persistent and I try to improve on any job that I am given.
What of now that new, vibrant and young actresses have come into the scene? Don’t you think your chances of achieving your goal may be limited?
I am not scared of them. I am not scared of challenge because it makes you stand out. If there weren’t any challenges, I might not be better than I was before. I would have been the same Uche. If you see new girls who are zealous and vibrant, you just have to make yourself better than they are; that is the trick. I am not afraid, they are afraid of me because I am never going to give up.
Going by how long you have been around, you should have moved higher in your career …
I am working according to the pace that God has set for me. I don’t want to be anybody else; I want to be me, according to the destiny that God has given me. I don’t think that my contemporaries are doing better than me. I came into the industry in 2006 and I think I have made something for myself. There are so many others who were there before me, but they have not reached the level I have attained in the industry. They are still seen as up and coming actresses. Some people rose to fame through other means.
Like?
They rose to fame through bad life, scandals and stuff like that. I don’t want to be known for bad things. I want to be known for good things. I am a role model to so many people and I want to remain like that. I want to be remembered for something good. I want to rise to fame by doing good stuff. I want to be known for the good reasons.
But you have not been free from scandals since you came into the industry…
Maybe that is true, but I don’t call them scandals, I call them minor mistakes. I might call them ‘mini scandals’. I have tried some things that some people perceived to be scandal. I know that I don’t live a scandalous life.
A picture of you kissing Harrysong went viral some time ago. Was it publicity stunt or were you actually caught in the act?
It wasn’t a publicity stunt. It was nothing. In fact, my friend and I were hanging out during his birthday and we were just drunk and having fun and playing a game. I just gave him a birthday kiss. Look at the picture very well, it wasn’t a deep kiss. It was a simple birthday kiss. Harrysong is not my boyfriend; he is my good friend. I have never had anything to do with him but we are very close. So, it was just simple birthday kiss that I was just jokingly plastering on his face and people were taking pictures that day.
Where was that?
It was at the beach and it was his birthday. When Harry realised that a lot of people were taking pictures, I had to ask him if he was bothered about it. There was no way we would tell everybody to delete the pictures. It would have looked as if we were hiding something. I was just playing with my friend and I think I have the right to do that; it is my life. I wasn’t giving Harry a deep kiss, I am not known for such act. People were just fishing for scandal.
The issue with Afrocandy, the soft porn producer also went viral. What really happened? Did she approach you personally to feature in her movie?
She didn’t approach me personally to say I should star in her movie. But she released a statement on her Facebook wall. I saw the statement because a lot of people drew my attention to it. I didn’t know who she was, but I had heard of her because the media had been saying unpleasant stuff about her.
Was that why you sent out your own statement about you not being a porn actress?
Being who I am, I didn’t take a second thought before I issued my statement. Her Facebook statement could have meant so many things. It could have been that she admired me and wished to be in a movie with me. It could have also meant she wanted me to star in her porn movie. I didn’t think of the former before I released my statement. A lot of people choose to take the negative than the positive, so I needed to clarify some issues to some people who might have thought I was considering going into pornography. I don’t have anything against her. She is a Nollywood actress, but I cannot live her kind of lifestyle. I am so decent even in the movies. I told her that I wouldn’t be able to feature in her movie and even if I have to become a porn actress, I would have to do it professionally and with a higher industry and certainly not cheap porn.
She replied your statement…
Oh yes. She replied and blasted me. But I didn’t react. I wouldn’t want to cheapen myself. I would have been promoting her if I had done that.
But we learnt you sent friendship request to her on Facebook?
I don’t know her. I don’t think she is my friend on Facebook. It is funny. She was just trying to make herself important. I know who I am. I have well over 24,000 followers on Facebook. I don’t think I sent a request to her. I can only do that to people who are bigger than me, especially big companies. I don’t use Facebook to connect to anybody or set up a friendship. I have so many messages on my wall but I cannot reply. They are so many. This was somebody who said she wanted to act alongside me and some others in her movie. It then meant she had some high regard for me. I didn’t go to meet her and beg to be in her movie. She is not the kind of person I would want to relate with. I want to be friends with women of substance. I want to be known for good reasons and not bad. I want to be friends with people who live a good life.
Would featuring in her film have been a bad idea?
I am not a porn star. I don’t want to act in a porn movie. I want to get married. I want to have children and be a good wife and mother. This is Africa and not Hollywood. Nobody can ever see me go naked in the movies. Nobody has ever seen me take off my clothes and show any part of my body in the movies.
Really, but you said you can act nude some time ago?
I said that but I attached a lot of conditions to that statement. But people chose to take the first part and went to town with the story that I said I could act nude. I only said I could act nude if my culture and tradition permit me. Am I crazy to say I want to act nude? If I weren’t in a community that would criticize me if I act nude, then I could do it. That was what I said. I respect my tradition.
Going back to Afrocandy, why do you think she added you to the list where she had Anita Joseph and Cossy Orjiakor?
I wouldn’t know. Maybe she sees strength in the three of us. It maybe she also saw confidence and an ‘I can do all things,’ spirit in all. Otherwise, I wouldn’t know why she would put me in their category. I don’t have butts like Anita. My boobs are not as big as Cossy’s. I wear a size 34D. I just have broad shoulders.
But we learnt you did breast enlargement recently?
But look at my breasts. You can touch them to see if they are real or fake. My breasts are real. I can go on national TV and show the world that my breasts are real. I have beautiful breasts. They are part of my best assets. I didn’t do any cosmetic surgery and I don’t have any form of silicon or plastic in my breasts. I am sure you must have been disappointed when you saw me.
What happened to that your boyfriend? the one abroad? We learnt he left you.
He didn’t leave me. I was the one that left him. It didn’t work out between us.
Whose fault was it?
It wasn’t anybody’s fault. I just decided he wasn’t good enough for me. He wasn’t what I wanted. Maybe I was young and naïve and when I took time to analyse things with my family, I realised I wouldn’t go into the relationship otherwise I would have been miserable and the marriage wouldn’t have lasted a year. We were engaged but we didn’t get married.
But the story was that you got pregnant for another person and he came back and dumped you…
That is a lie. None of that happened. He couldn’t have dumped me. He still wants me till today. He calls me and begs to marry me. I don’t live bad life. I am a different person. I am responsible. There is no man that has been with me that has ever left me. I am usually the one who walks out. I am not married today just for reason best known to me. It is not every man you date that you must marry. A man can only leave his woman based on laziness or infidelity. I am not lazy and I am not scandalous. I don’t cheat on my man. I am always faithful so there wouldn’t be any reason for any man to dump me. I made up my mind and I am not going back to the guy. I am not 40 yet, I am not even 30. I am only 27. Am I looking so old that people think I can’t get married? I still have chances please.

Revealed: Prostitution Runs In Abuja
After visiting several locations known to be red-light districts, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) through its secretary for social development, Mrs Blessing Onuh, announced a “total ban” on próstitution throughout the nation’s capital city.
A 48-hour ultimatum was issued for all women of easy virtue to vacate the city and quit the job “because they constitute a nuisance in the city”. She added a fatwa on their male patrons who ruined “some of the girls [who] are under-aged”.
Other severe measures were lined up; security agencies actually combed some of the red-light districts and made several arrests. But rather than the scourge abating, it appears undying like the proverbial phoenix.Próstitution in Abuja has metamorphosed from the conventional sedentary practice in local brothels to a sophisticated cartel of “runs babes” and the corporate realm.
The “executive” type now holds in many luxury hotels in the Abuja metropolis and the exquisite homes of the super-rich. Notorious spots include Port Harcourt Crescent, off Gimbiya Street, Garki; Adetokunbo Ademola Crescent and Sheraton Junction in Wuse II; and virtually all the discotheques. Even in poor neighbourhoods like Nyanyan, Mararaba and Gwagwa, little girls have joined the illicit trade.
They parade a horde of half-unclad girls and women of various ages and sizes brazenly exposing themselves, while openly and desperately beckoning on motorists and passers-by to pick them for the night. They insult, poke rude jokes and pour vituperation on those who look at them scornfully or ignore them.Indeed, for Abuja’s affluent and powerful men, it has become commonplace to place order for these women on the street or import them from other states and even from far-flung countries in the Caribbean and Asian countries.
High-society social, political functions are incomplete without a harem of these shadowy women. The import of these is that the upsurge requires a holistic framework to be able to deal with this seemingly intractable scourge.
Although the focus is typically on the females, no heteroséxual próstitutes exist without willing male companions ready to pay the price for their services. Blamed for the resurgence of this social vice are the lack of job opportunities, the lack of education, and other socio-economic issues such as low self-esteem or psychosis.
The flourishing religious centres have provided no succour either. Since the menace is defying these stereotypes – for example, a former minister once confessed that our tertiary institutions were churning out more prostitutes than career-ready graduates — education and religion must be tweaked towards combating it. Parents, civil society and the traditional institutions should embrace family values and expose those who flaunt illicit wealth and inculcate the right ethos in the adolescents to discourage the evil act.
Most importantly, the government should provide jobs, encourage entrepreneurship and provide an enabling environment for the realisation of opportunities and sense of self-worth. Our young daughters and sisters must be discouraged from selling their bodies to filthy and immoral men who have nothing but money, HIV/AIDS and other venereal diseases to offer.
