Dbanj Urges Nigerian Artistes To Promote The Image Of Nigeria Via Their Music

Dbanj in an interview recently spoke on the importance of Artistes portraying the image of the country in a positive light.

Speaking, he described music as a veritable tool for the propagation of the country’s rich tourism, economic and entertainment potentialities.
The musician also said the wrong perception of the way of life of Nigerians must be corrected.

“There has been a lot of wrong perception about how we are and from the lifestyle.

“But I believe spending a whole full day in Nigeria, you will understand from the food to the culture to the weather a lot of people look for this kind of weather around the world.

“Then the music, the field that I am from, I think that right now music is very universal and a lot of people globally are even listening to African music.

“So I believe late Fela Anikolapo Kuti even said it that afro beat the original sound has a life.

“Music is very spiritual so I want everyone to come and see how great Nigeria is, let us not focus only on the oil yes we have plenty of oil it will not finishing in the next 100 years to 200 years.

“But people need to understand what we have; from textiles like `Adire’ to the entertainment industry, from Nollywood to other areas, we’ll get to see a lot.

D’banj also described the entertainment industry as an employer of labour, adding that it was capable of keeping the youth economically engaged and out of social vices.

He said there was also the need for the public and private sector to boost the Nigerian music industry

Why We Drink Our Victims’ Blood – Boko Haram Fugitive Confesses

His physique could hardly fit into the temperament of his persuasion. He is frail, he talks slowly and you would have no qualms passing him off as one naïve, harmless young man. But all that is a façade. Beneath it nestles a motivated terror. Nasir Isiaku, 27, has zealous hatred for Christians. Hear him: “If we asked our victim, ‘Will you become a Muslim or not and he or she refuses, we will slaughter him like a goat…” He talked of himself as an Islamic warrior who delights in chopping off people’s head with a stroke of his dagger.

However, all of that was, according to him, up until he made a turnaround in a most dramatic way. Nasir Isiaku is from Gusau in Zamfara State. He said while still in the group, he killed many Christians when he reigned as second-in-command to a terrorist group that wages war against non-Muslims in northern Nigeria. The group, Shitte, is a Boko Haram franchise. “Our own group is called Shitte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups who are also part of sect,” he said, adding: “Whenever we heard that any of the sects was fighting Christians, we always joined them,”
He was speaking to a gathering of Christians recently of his activities as a member of the terror group. He also told of how he renounced what he called “the cult” where he drank his victims’ blood so their ghosts would not appear to him in dreams.

This is Isiaku’s testimony as he told it himself. We have slightly edited it, so as to preserve its narrative purity. WOLE BALOGUN was there:

“I joined the Bafarawa Arabic Islamic Centre in 2010 and they were teaching us Arabic language. Every year, we take about 20 people to Iran for special training because our zonal headquarters is in Iran. Our own group is called Shitte but we have the same agenda with the Boko Haram sect. You people have only been hearing of Boko Haram, but there are other deadly Islamic groups that are also part of Boko Haram sect. I can count up to six of them that I’m very much aware of. Whenever we heard that any of the sects was fighting Christians, we always joined them. My own group has been an Islamic movement for a long time, even before I was born. It reigned in the north during the Abacha military regime and it has many branches in the north. We are in major northern states such as Kastina, Kaduna, Zamfara, Kano, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Zaria among others.

Sometimes, when we want to wreak havoc on Christians, we hire our own bus because we have our own weapons, which we use against the Christians. We usually join the Boko Haram sect whenever they wanted to fight the Christians or the soldiers because we usually hear that soldiers kill our Boko Haram brothers in Maiduguri, Yobe and Potiskum.

I used to be one of the most trusted hands in the group because I was a very obedient and loyal follower. I had my own secret office where I received delegates from our sponsors whenever our leader wasn’t around and where I attend to the needs of any of our members.

This is why I didn’t participate in many of our attacks against the Christians or the soldiers because I used to take care of the home front. Our leaders usually psyched us up, they brainwashed us to fight against Christians because they are enemies of Allah. They taught us that the more Christians we were able to kill, the more our chances of entering Alijonan(heaven).

Many of our trainings hold in the night, around 10pm. There is a bush around the school where we usually go for trainings.

Some aspects of the training we receive are not ordinary; we used to drink what one could call spiritual water because it is not ordinary water. We also used to receive strange visitors who were not equally ordinary humans. We receive the visitors in a strange way, our leaders used to summon them: they used to instruct us to recite some passages in the Quran and whenever we do that, the visitors would appear to us during those unholy hours. They could come in three or four. They appeared like humans but they are not humans. We know they are not humans. They usually fortify us with charms for the task before us. They used to instruct us to be strong and fight.

Our leaders also used to render a lot of assistance to support our cause. They bring a lot of money in a pick up van and asked us to use the money to buy guns. Many of our supplies come from the zonal headquarters and sometimes, there is a popular Bayelsa man who is, though a Christian, supporting our cause in cash and kind. I can’t remember his name now. The Bayelsa man gave us money and also supplied us with weapons for the mission.

I am the second in command in my camp in our group, and whenever our president travels to the headquarters in Iran, I used to coordinate the group and receive our sponsors on his behalf. This is why I am able to sit with the sponsors and know what happens.

We had vowed to first kill all Christians in Kaduna before dealing with others in the north. Whenever we take the spiritual water, we become more daring to do any evil. It makes us more dangerous and if we were annoyed at such moment, we could kill. The water also fortifies us against gunshots. When we have taken it, bullets will not harm us. Also, we get mystery ring from our leaders. About eight of us were selected for the ring, and that ring provides almost anything we asked from it. It is like a personal power for us.

I can’t recall the number of people I have killed. I don’t use gun most times. We usually use guns to shoot people on the leg. If we ask a victim: “Will you become a Muslim or not? And he or she refuses, we slaughter the victim like a goat. And after killing the victim, we collect his or her blood in a very small cup and then drink it. After drinking the blood, the victim’s ghost could not hunt us in dreams. That is what our leaders told us. And indeed, once we taste the blood of people we kill, we will not see them in our dreams.

Sometimes, when we don’t feel like drinking the blood from the cup, we used our fingers to touch the victim’s blood and taste it. It will still prevent ghost of victim from hunting us in dreams.

We used to kill Christians because we believe that by killing them, we will enter heaven at death. Our leaders used a Quranic passage that seems to support our action (Recites some Quranic lines). In interpretation, the passage says: “O you believers, you should not be friendly with your enemies.” ‘Believers’ here means we, the Muslims and ‘enemies’ are the Christians.

The leaders of our group and the sponsors are many. Our sponsors are wealthy Nigerians. They are in government, and many are past Nigerian leaders. If I mention their names, you would think I am just telling lies. We have governors, senators who sponsor us heavily. Our sponsors are many (Names mentioned are withheld). You wouldn’t believe some of them are really part of us. We usually invite them to the graduation of the students in the school. That is when many know them as part of us.

We have days we go to town to preach and win more members. On such days, we add a red cap to our white T-Shirt and trousers. On another occasion when we put on black caps, it means we won’t fight.

We have infiltrated the Nigerian forces. We have our members in the police and army. Those members help us a lot whenever we want to fight.

However, we are very secretive, my blood brother who was not a member didn’t know I was part of the sect. I kept my association with the sect secret from people close to me who don’t share our views about Christians. My father loved me very well.

Right from the time we attended Chachangi School, a lower school in my place, our Islamic instructors had been drumming it into our ears that we should tighten our belts to fight the Christians. They instructed us to always be armed, either with knife or gun. They even told us to have our own gun and get license for it.

My own area in Kaduna is Torumada, it is a haven for many Islamic terrorists in Nigeria. Before I joined the Shiite school, I took part in several fights in which we massacred many Christians. The Christians in Sokoto are most vulnerable to attacks from our people because they are just within our reach, but they have also been very lucky because a major Islamic cleric in the state is always pleading that we shouldn’t touch them.

We actually found out many places in Sokoto where Christians are living. One of them is Ota Road, but in order to respect our Islamic cleric, we haven’t touched them.

Boko Haram has their men trained in Afganistan. I don’t know if you have been hearing about the Taliban, those who sacrifice their lives through suicide bombing. The Talibans are the ones who are training Boko Haram men. I know Boko Haram usually have about 60 men who go for training in Afganistan. They train them on how to go on suicide bombing, make their own bombs and fight and do other dangerous things. They also provide them with sophisticated weapons such as bombs and all that.

Since I gave my life to Christ, I have been getting several attacks from the cult. There was a Thursday evening in Sokoto, I was supposed to go to vigil with a roommate named brother Matthew. He asked me to go with him but I declined, saying I was tired. When it was well into the night, I suddenly heard a loud, disturbing knock on the door. The voice that called out to me resembled that of brother Matthew. It said that I should open the door. The man actually spoke in Hausa, asking me to open up for him, but something pulled me back. My heart pounded and I suddenly realized it could be an impostor coming to attack me. But then, I couldn’t pray, all I could only mutter was Holy Ghost fire! I said this repeatedly till the stranger disappeared. And then I heard the barking of a dog from somewhere in the neighourhood.

Eventually, when the real Matthew came from church and asked for the door to be opened, I became hysterical with him. I demanded his explanations for the earlier visit but he said it wasn’t him. Initially I didn’t believe him. It took the explanation of another brother who confirmed that he was actually in the church all through the night for me to let things be. I could have killed him.

Before the attack, I had been keeping indoors. I couldn’t go out just anyhow because I knew members of the group would be looking for me.

So, after that incident, my pastor decided to take me to his village, away from the area where everyone knew me.

It is only God that can stop the war Boko Haram and other Islamic religious sects have started against the Christians in Nigeria. I thank God that I am out and now a Christian. The frank advice I can offer to all Christians is that they should start securing their own weapons, tighten their belts and prepare for war. The terrorist sects are prepared for war already. I am just looking at all Christians in Nigeria as dead people because of the level of preparations the sects have made.

It was on March 6, that I had a strange encounter that turned me into a completely different person. We usually go for our preaching on Fridays and Saturdays. I had just returned from one of such outings in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State, it was around 3pm. I was about to start taking ablution for the evening prayers when it happened. A man in pure, resplendent white attire just appeared to me. And once I saw him I was scared and dropped the small keg of water and ran off to my office. My people were asking me and I told them that I saw a man in white but they said they didn’t see anybody and even when I went back to the spot where I had seen the man, he was no longer there.

Then that night when I slept, the strange man in white came to me again. He was holding a stick and then I was frightened and I shouted and woke up with a start. My people rushed to me and said I was having a nightmare. Our leader said that the man in white must be an evil one. They took me to a powerful Mallam in Gombe who did some prayers for me to ward off the evil man in white. After the prayers, the Mallam assured me that nothing would happen to me and I returned to our base. But then when I slept again the following night, the same man in white appeared to me again and this time, he spoke to me. He said: “God has chosen you”. He said that three times and I again woke up with a start and that again alarmed my people. But when they asked what happened to me, I lied to them that there was nothing.

When it was morning, I took my bathe and deliberately went to see a barber friend who is a Christian. After he had finished cutting my hair, I opened up to him. I told him about my encounter with the strange old man in white and he said that the man must be God reaching out to me. I asked him why God would want to reach out to me. He then asked me if I was ready to give my life to Christ and serve God and immediately I said yes. I was even surprised at the way I simply took it.

Since I started fellowshipping with the church, I have become a different being. The experience was like I had a thorough bathe, which washed off all impurities like diseases and all that. Before the experience, I used to walk around like one afflicted with insanity, but now, I am more relaxed and composed. I now take time to take care of myself and even have inner peace. I used to live on drugs but now, I don’t take drugs any longer. I feel healthy.

It is not easy to quite the brotherhood because we undergo terrible and diabolic initiation process that hardened us. It is only by God’s touch that anyone one could renounce the group. When I was still there a certain high profile member of the Boko Haram sect, named Shuaib, renounced the group. I was part of many others who personally swore that we would ensure that we skin Shuaib alive if we see him anywhere.

But I want to tell my colleagues who are still in it to have a change of heart. I now realize that killing Christians would not take me to heaven; instead, it will take me to hell. And I’m ready to live a good life as a Christian.

Work Permit Stops Mba Stoke Move

EPL side Stoke City will not consider a move for Sunday Mba as he did not play enough games for Nigeria to be granted a work permit.
Netherlands-based agent Richard Umejei told MTN Football that a proposed move to the EPL for Mba fell through because in the last two years, the player has only played 10 of the 20 internationals involving Nigeria.

Umejei disclosed: “It’s a pity Mba can no longer go to Stoke City because of work permit issues. He played 10 matches out of 20 matches, which is far below the 75% required for him to be granted a work permit. Had he played another five matches, he would have been good to go.

“Both the Stoke chief scout, Kevin Cruickshank, and director of football, Mark Cartwright, were keen to invite him before they researched that his international appearances fall short of minimum required for a work permit.

Kevin Cruickshank told Umejei, “I’ve been looking into his playing record for Nigeria and I’m not sure he qualifies for a work permit. He has only played 10 of the last 20 competitive games (50%) for his country in the last 2 years.”

Among the games he missed were 2013 AFCON group matches against Zambia and Burkina Faso as well as qualifiers against Liberia both home and away as well as the home game versus Rwanda in Calabar

TRAGEDY: Woman Killed, Many Injured As Truck Crushes Six Vehicles In Abuja (PHOTOS)

Tragedy struck in Abuja on Saturday when a woman was crushed to death by a heavy-duty truck and injured many others at Biaji Road in Kubwa .
The accident which occurred at 12. 00pm was attributed to the brake failure from the truck which made the driver to lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a woman who about to climb a motorcycle known as (Okada) and killed her on the spot while many others were said to have broken their hands and legs.

An eyewitness who pleaded anonymity said that the truck hit the woman, throwing her body parts and her body into pieces.

The vehicle somersaulted several times before it plunged into the ditch. “The car was coming from Biaji to Kubwa Village and was loaded with beer but if not because of these bumps (speed breakers) the truck would have rammed into the residential building and kill many people.

The woman wanted to climb a motorcycle but was hit from behind by the truck, and the okada man escaped unhurt.

The accident, which involved six cars includes; a Toyota Carina 11, Gulf 3, Saloon Jeta, Mercedes Benz (230), Nissan Sunny and a Toyota Rav 4 were all damaged beyond repair. Last Words Of a Father Shot By Policeman On Killing Spree

Tragedy struck in Amuwo-Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State the penultimate Thursday as yet another trigger-happy "servant of the law" shot and killed the local barber, father of a tiny daughter.

The barber, identified as Bright, was a single father of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl, owned a hair saloon that also served as a home to the both of them. The man never lived to implement his life goal -- to see his daughter accepted to the best school possible.

That day, it has been gathered, Bright, having bathed his daughter Ebun and prepared her food, opened his saloon, and customers began flowing in.

At around 10.30pm, according to the eyewitnesses, a mobile policeman attached to a company poles away from Janet Fagbemi street (location of Bright's) stormed the shop and ordered Bright to come out.

Bright, who was then attending to a customer, left him and came out.

"As he stepped out of the shop, the Mopol shot him at close range. He continued shooting sporadically. In the process, four other persons, including a pregnant woman, were hit by stray bullets. From all indications, it was obvious he [the policeman] was drunk.

"It all started after the policeman... abandoned his duty post and accosted some men in a vehicle on the adjourning street. He told the men in the car to come down for a search. But they hesitated, requesting he identified himself before they would obey.

"Perhaps their response infuriated him as he slapped one of them twice. While they were still trying to fathom what their offence was, he slapped the second man.

"Amidst frayed nerves, the men demanded to ascertain the identity of the man who assaulted them. At that point, the Mopol rushed to his duty post and came back with his gun, saying he would show them that he was just posted from Jos, Plateau, where people are killed anyhow. At that point everyone took to his heels before he went to Bright's shop," the eyewitnesses narrated.

A pregnant woman, identified as Ebere, was inside her house when she heard the gun shots. Suspecting robbers were operating, she rushed out to lock her gate -- only for a stray bullet to hit her on the hand.

Another victim, known Nonso, was hit in the eye, while the third, Tayo, was hit in the thigh.

Women Forced Into Sёx 25 Times A Day

US authorities say young Mexican women were driven to rural New Jersey and forced to have sex with 25 farmworkers a day or were confined to dingy brothels in the New York City area, being paid very little or nothing at all.

A criminal complaint charges 13 people with smuggling dozens of women into the United States and forcing them into prostitution.

Some of the defendants were to appear Wednesday in federal court in Manhattan to face multiple counts including sex trafficking and interstate transportation for prostitution.

The ring “lured their unsuspecting victims to the United States and then consigned them to a living hell,” US Attorney Preet Bharara said in a statement.
The investigation was among several aimed at “blockading the repugnant sex trafficking corridor” used to exploit victims from Tenancingo, Mexico, said James Hayes, head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in New York.

Tenancingo, an impoverished town in Tlaxcala state, has long been a notorious haven for pimps who use a combination of threats, abuse and broken promises of marriage and jobs to put innocent victims, some only in their teens, on a path to sex slavery in Mexico City and in large cities in the United States.
Most victims eventually manage to escape, authorities say in court papers.

But “without legal status in the United States, without family and friends for support, without employment opportunities and as a result of the trauma they suffered, victims sometimes return to prostitution.”

According to the complaint, the ring provided its victims with condoms and birth control pills while making them have sex with up to 30 men a day. The men paid $30 for 15 minutes.

The women sometimes got a $15 cut, but that usually went to the traffickers. If convicted, some of the defendants face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Why I Walked Out Of My Marriage– Actress, Moji Olaiya

Popular actress, Moji Olaiya, in a recent interview talks about her career and why she walked out of her marriage.
You are in a soon to be released soap, Glass House. How did it come about?

A producer we call Jerry (Isichei) produced it. I am a major cast in the series.

Most people know you as a Yoruba actress, but you are now featuring in an English series…

But this is not my first job in English. Don’t forget that I came to the limelight through Super Story and which of course, was in English. I am also in Nowhere to be Found, which is another popular soap.

We learnt that you played the role of an illiterate woman in Glass House

Yes, and it was very challenging. I got married to a bank chairman in the series and I am also a publisher. I played ‘Moji’ even in the series. The character is just a very funny person. I must tell you the soap is very interesting. I am very happy I played that part.

You have not produced any movie in recent times…

The last movie I produced was last year and it even won an award. It was premiered in Canada at the Toronto film festivals. The market is not really encouraging now. That is why most producers are really calming down to see the outcome of this piracy issue. That is why most people are not doing movies now.

Are you saying you didn’t make enough from your last movie?

We didn’t make what we expected because of piracy. However, the movie sold. It won the best movie award at last year’s Yoruba Movies Academy Awards. It was also screened at the Africa Movies Academy Awards.

But it wasn’t nominated in any category…

I don’t know what happened. As far as I know, it was well shot. It had good picture quality.

Will you say your father’s name has opened a lot of doors for you?

I’ll say yes. Let’s take for instance my state, Ekiti State. Most things they call my father to do, because he is old and cannot be travelling up and down, they call me to do them. I even remember the first time I went to the German Embassy for a visa. Getting the visa was very quick because the lady that attended to me knew who my father was. I got the visa. I am proud to be associated with him as somebody I can call my father. There are so many legends out there, yet their children are not proud of them.

Granted your father is a showbiz man, but most of your siblings are in other professions. How come you are the one that went into showbiz?

I think it is where God wants me to be. It is my destiny. When I was little, I loved entertainment. I was called to act and sing in my church when I was little. Growing up though, I never had the intention of acting. However, along the way, I got into it. I’ll just call it luck. I have no regret. If I should come back to this world again, I still will love to be an entertainer.

What really happened to your marriage?

You see, I am an advocate of marriage. I preach that women should be in their husbands’ houses. All my life, I have always wanted to get married and stay with my husband and bring my children up in the fear of the Lord. But along the line, things didn’t work out. I don’t even want to get into the details so that it doesn’t get messier. But things didn’t work out.

So you left your marriage because ‘things didn’t work out’?

If things are not really working out, I think the best thing for you to do is to quit and leave everything in the hands of God.

Be sincere, whose fault was it that it didn’t work out?

I don’t think it was my fault. I didn’t have any fault in the marriage. However, I will not blame the other party. I really want to keep this off the press as I have been advised by my family. It just didn’t work out.

Some might think that you didn’t want to stay in a husband’s house…

I don’t think I will get married and say that I don’t want to stay in my husband’s house. It is only a senseless person that will do that. I am in my late 30’s. Why would I, at this age, not want to be in a husband’s house? It’ll get to a time that you will need a man. But when you get the man and things are not working the way you planned and you know you still have a long way to go in life, you have a fruitful career, then the best thing for you to do is to quit the marriage and let the man go.

Could it be that you got another man because we learnt that you have a Canada-based lover…

Is it possible for me to get married to someone else when I am not officially divorced? I don’t know how people think. I don’t have anybody in Canada and I have never dated anybody in Canada. Even people who know me are not usually aware when I am in Canada. Canada is my second home, but I am always inside. I really don’t know where they got this false story from.

But are you planning to get married soon?

I am not planning to get married soon. And just to get it straight, I am just separated from my husband. I am not legally divorced and I don’t have any lover anywhere.

What if you and your husband make up eventually?

Well… I will not say anything about that. I just think we should leave everything to God. Let him perform that wonder that He wants to perform. I believe that He is up to something.

You talk like somebody who is pained…

When things you didn’t plan for happen, it will hurt you especially with all the things happening in our industry now. People think we are not serious and we don’t understand the institution of marriage. That is not so. My parents weren’t separated. I was brought up properly. My siblings are married. It is painful when you get married and you eventually leave that marriage because of something that is beyond your control.

You used to say you are an evangelist

I am an evangelist. I am a strong Christian. I preach on TV. So what am I teaching the younger ones? Am I telling them that marriage is not good? No. So I feel pained that this is happening. It is good to be married. It is good to have a crown over your head, somebody that can control you and you bear his name. It is painful; I know I am a role model to so many people. I know some people’s impression about me will be affected. But I know best and I know why it happened. I am sure that God will not even be angry with me that I made the decision at that time.

I am sure I have not made the wrong decision. I would only tell my fans that I didn’t enjoy doing this but they just have to support me and pray along with me. I am an advocate of a peaceful marriage. Women should be married. I am not speaking for anybody but my colleagues whose marriages broke up know why they left their marriages. I did what I did because it was the best thing I could do.

But every lady needs a man beside her. How will you be managing?

I didn't say marriage is out of the way now. Now that I got married and it didn't work out, I have to be careful the next time. I have to choose well so as to avoid the first mistake. I am just taking my time. And in fact, God might even tell me to go back to my first marriage, He can also tell me to move on. So let us just leave it for God to handle.

Could it be your profession that affected your marriage?

I don’t think so. While I was with him, I didn’t feature in so many movies. I just faced my marriage. It was just recently that I started featuring in movies. I never went for awards or functions. I wanted that marriage to really work. However, he even met me as an actress. I couldn’t have left my career because of marriage. In fact, I cannot leave my career for any marriage, no way! Even if I am getting married to the richest man, I don’t think he will tell me to quit acting.

Did he ask you to stop?

He never asked me to stop acting. We never had any issue concerning my career.

We know Fathia Balogun is your friend. Could it be that you decided to leave your marriage because your friend is also separated from her husband?

Fathia is my friend, I cannot deny that. But I couldn’t have left my marriage because hers didn’t work out. It is wrong for anybody to think that way. She knows what happened in her case, I know what happened in my own case. Come to think of it, when I go on set, I just want to face my business and get out. I don’t listen to gossip. I don’t know who is fighting over men. I just do my job and it is over. I don’t believe that anybody in her right senses will fight over a man.

Were your parents in support of the separation?

I didn’t take the decision alone. But I think I will leave this out of the papers. I am an advocate of a good thing. I will get married again. I have to know what I want. I have to know who the person really is before I get into it.

Didn’t you know who he was before you got married to him?

I can’t really say I didn’t know who he was. But things just happened. God knows best. Let us just leave it at that.

Did you have any children?

No.

Could it have been the reason for the break up?

No way. He is not God and I am not God. The marriage was just three years. We have seen couples who didn’t have kids for so many years and they didn’t break up. Not having kids couldn’t have been the issue because I know I don’t have a problem. He doesn’t have a problem too. He has two kids and I have a kid before we got married.

Do we see you doing another thing apart from movies?

Yes. I will start events management. I will open my business very soon.

Fulani Cattle Herdsmen Butcher Two Brothers In Imo State

The plight of residents of Umuekwunne Irete in Imo State got worse yesterday Thursday August 8th 2013 as fulani cattle herdsmen opened fire on the community, injuring several young men. Worse off is Chibuzor Hezekiah Okorie (pictured above) who was shot in the stomach and also cut in the chest and leg with a machete. His brother was also attacked.

The Fulani cattle herdsmen encroach into the farms, using the crop to feed their cattle. This has always been the case in most communities in Imo State. Almost on a daily basis cattle storm farm lands and destroys crops cultivated by the people. And when some youths in the community confronted the cattle herdsmen around 3pm yesterday, they almost didn't live to tell their story.

The Fulanis carry AK47 guns and machetes and this was what they sued on the men yesterday.

The communities said they have reported the happening to the government on several occasions, but nothing has been done so far. Find another pic after the cut...*viewer discretion advised*

TRAGEDY: Woman Commits Suicide 4 Months After Delivering Twins

A nursing mother of a set of twins, Mrs. Muji Kazeem, has committed suicide on Oremerin Street, Ladilak, Somolu, Lagos State four months after delivery.
Mrs. Muji Kazeem, a hairdresser, was found dead in a well on Tuesday morning. The well was located two houses to the apartment that Muji and her husband, Adewale, were staying.

It was learnt that the twins came after five years of marriage.

The husband, 28, said his wife was found dead in the well two days after she was declared missing.

He said, “We were together on Sunday night having prayers around 9.30pm. Then, the babies started crying, so I told her to go and breast-feed them.

“By the time I finished praying, she had slept off with the twins on the bed. I spread a mat on the floor by the entrance and slept off.

“Muji woke up around 11.30pm and went outside. One of my friends told me that he saw her at that time taking cool air before he went inside to sleep.”

Kazeem said he was awaken by the wailing of the twins around 1am. He said he searched for their mother without success.

When the day broke, Kazeem raised the alarm that his wife was missing. The neighbourhood was said to have been thrown into confusion as a search party was organised to look for her without success. The matter was later reported at the Pedro Police Station.

Kazeem said, “We saw her clothes near the well on Monday night and became hopeful. We intensified prayers for her. But it was 7am the following day that a woman, who wanted to draw water from the well, observed that the drawer did not get water. She got a torchlight, pointed it down the well and saw the swollen corpse of my wife.”

He said Muji had been buried at the Atan Cemetry at Yaba in line with Islamic rites.

“We buried her at the Atan Cemetery after obtaining police report. My mother has taken the babies for care,” he said.

Kazeem described his late wife as a gentle and cheerful woman, who never fought or quarrelled with anyone since he met her.

He said, “We have never had any reason to fight or disagree. I don’t know if she offended anyone who decided not to forgive her. But for me, I have taken this as my destiny.”

However, Punch Metro learnt that the deceased had been depressed a few days before her death.

A source within the area, said the 25-year-old mother, could sometimes be lost in thought for several hours and would not respond to greetings until people shouted at her.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, promised to get back to our correspondent when she was contacted on the telephone.
