How I Escaped Plots To Kill Me In Prison – Al-Mustapha
MAKURDI — Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former Chief Security Officer, CSO, to late Head of State, Gen. Sanni Abacha, has revealed that he escaped several plots to kill him while he was still in prison. He said but for the intervention of Wantaregh Paul Unongo and retired Controller of Prison, Iorbee Ihiagh, he would have been eliminated after the death of his former boss Gen. Sanni Abacha.
Maj. Al-Mustapha spoke last weekend in Jato Akaa, when he led his wife, son of the former Head of State, Mohammed Abacha, friends and loyalists to pay homage to Second Republic Minister of Steel, Wataregh Paul Unongo, in his country home.

He said: “On the 29th of March, 2004, some people planned to kill me. I was to be forced out of the prison and taken to an unknown destination where they were to take my life.
“Thank God, a reliable and trusted son of Tivland and my friend was officer in charge. He was directed to release me without documents in the wee hours of the night.
“As God would have it, he sought for guidance from our father and leader, Wantaregh Paul Unongo, who in turn directed him not to allow them take me away for subsequent killing.
“God saved my life on that day. Let me say, from the day the journey started, the day my father, the late General Sanni Abacha, died to the 12th of of July this year when I was released, we have had so many attempts to take our lives but God Almighty preserved us.
“Alhaji Mohammed Sanni Abacha and I initially were framed through scripted stories released to the media and we were arrested. Thank God that subsequently justice was served having passed through series of travails and torture.
“But today it is just normal that we should come home to Tivland before my father Wantaregh Paul Unongo and in the presence of CP Ihiagh, who was prematurely retired because he refused to play games with my life. God Almighty has decided that I will still see today.”
ASUU Strike: Sultan Urges FG, ASUU To Give Dialogue A Chance.
Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has appealed to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off the lingering strike and embrace dialogue with the federal government.
The Sultan, who expressed sadness over the strike embarked upon by ASUU, lamented that students spend seven years in some universities and graduate without acquiring education.
He stressed the need for ASUU and the federal government to go back to the negotiating table, with a view to finding a lasting solution to the problem.
“We are now back to square one and we seem not to have a solution at hand to solve the problem. As fathers, we will continue to plead. So, I am pleading with ASUU to call off the strike and for the federal government to be given a chance to fulfil its obligation.
“I believe ASUU and the federal government should give dialogue a chance. We must find a common ground. Negotiation is a give and take and people should negotiate based on mutual respect.
“I don’t believe in strike action because students suffer in the end. We want to see education move to greater heights in this country. So, this should be an issue of give and take and what ASUU will give should be what the federal government will be able to afford. So, I call on ASUU to suspend the strike action, resume talks and go back to the negotiating table so that we can make progress,” he advised.

The policemen accused of collaborating with hoodlums to kill two youths in Badagry, Lagos State, have been arrested.

The two policemen and four other yet-to-be-identified policemen could be seen at the scene watching hoodlums beat the victims to death.
While Ashogbon and Sonayon were in the midst of the crowd, the four yet-to-be-identified policemen could be seen standing beside a white police patrol vehicle.
Ashogbon, who wore a green pullover and holding an AK47 rifle in the video, was the policeman that interviewed the victims during their torture.
It was learnt that the two policemen and some of the hoodlums had been arrested.
PUNCH Metro had reported that two youths, Ifechukwude Nwaikpor, and one Kazeem, were lynched in Ajara, Badagry, on July 21, 2013.
Nwaikpor, a final year student of Geology and Mining, and Kazeem were beaten to death after a misunderstanding with residents of the area.
PUNCH Metro learnt that at least eight people had been arrested over the incident. The state Commissioner of Police, Umar Manko, had set up a special team of policemen to handle the matter.
Manko exonerated the victims of robbery last Thursday and berated the Divisional Police Officer, Badagry Division, CSP Mohammed Dankoli, for unprofessional conduct.
He had said, “The Divisional Police Officer did not present the matter to us the way it happened. When we started asking questions, we discovered that the two people, who were killed, were not armed robbers contrary to what the DPO told us. When we saw the video clips and watched the way those boys were killed, we told ourselves that we would be failing in our duties if we fail to bring everyone involved to justice.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, said all the policemen in the video had been arrested.
“Investigations are ongoing. The outcome of the investigations will be made public in due course,” she added.
Armed Robbers Storm Lagos Neighbourhood, Rape Lady, Shoot Several Residents
Two students of YABATECH were recently shot during a robbery incident at their residence in Bariga area of Lagos.
According to the occupants, a gang of armed men numbering about 14 stormed Awofodu Street and Ajiun Street at the Lady Lak area of Bariga, robbing the residents and raping a lady in the process.
At Awofodu Street, the hoodlums collected phones, money and two laptops, then they moved to Ajiun street where they also collected mobiles, jewellery and cash.
In the process, they shot a student, Seun Sanusi, in the leg before they robbed him. Another student, Olarewanju Ikotun, who was lying close to Sanusi when the robbers shot him, got hit by a pellet. The photo of one of the resident’s bullet wound became available for the reporters:
As the armed robbers made their escape, they snatched the key of the apartment and locked the door.
Other occupants of the house called the police who took Sanusi to the hospital, where he was admitted. The bullet was later extracted at a traditional medicine home.
Narrating the incident, Sanusi said: “At about 1 a.m., the robbers barged into the room and they started slapping everybody. They started asking for gold chains, phones and laptops. I was having a good night sleep when they slapped me on my bed and ordered me to lie face down.
“Next thing, a guy shot me. I became unconscious and I learnt the police came and took me to the hospital. They stole my Blackberry Bold 5 phone and they stole laptops and collected money.”
Following the incident, the officers at the Pedro police station arrested one Azeez for being in possession of Sanusi’s stolen BlackBerry Bold 5.
Azeez, according to the police source, was lured to the Tantalizers Eatery at Palmgroove area of the state with the aid of the BB pin.
Azeez, however, confessed to the police that he bought the phone from his boss at Mowe in Ogun state.
The police arrested Azeez’s boss and two others but released them after investigation revealed that they were not connected to the robbery.
The police are still working to catch the armed robbers who perpetrated the act.

Drogba Ruins Arsenal’s Party
Didier Drogba returned to haunt Arsenal as the Ivory Coast striker scored both goals in Galatasaray’s 2-1 victory in the Emirates Cup on Sunday.
Drogba made a habit of scoring against Arsene Wenger’s team when he was at Chelsea and, after appearing as a half-time substitute, his strikes overturned Theo Walcott’s first half opener and ensured the Turkish team won the four-team pre-season tournament.
SWEET VICTORY: Drogba with the Emirates Cup Sunday. AFP.
Wenger’s men paid the price at their Emirates Stadium for failing to make the most of early pressure and Drogba’s contribution highlighted just why Wenger is trying to add Liverpool striker Luis Suarez to his squad.
With the pursuit of Suarez having so far failed despite Arsenal making a bid over £40 million for the Uruguay international, France under-20 striker Yaya Sanogo is the only pre-season addition to Wenger’s squad.
Sanogo’s inclusion in the starting line-up attracted much of the attention following Wenger’s claims the youngster was a “top class” striker who would surprise many this season.
And the former Auxerre youngster was handed an immediate opportunity to make an impression when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain dispossessed Semih Kaya and picked out his unmarked team-mate in the visitors’ penalty area.
Sanogo made room for a left foot shot but was unable to find a way past Fernando Muslera, Galatasaray’s Uruguayan goalkeeper.
The youngster again found himself free inside the Galatasaray area shortly before half time following an intricate passing move and was spared by the offside flag after his tame shot had again been saved by Muslera.
In between those openings Arsenal largely dominated the first half, appearing sharper than they had in a 2-2 draw against Napoli the previous day.
A strong appeal for a penalty was turned down when Aaron Ramsey went tumbling early on before Walcott failed to make the most of a 19th minute opportunity after being picked out by an accurate long ball from Ramsey.
Walcott controlled the ball well to take him away from Albert Riera but his clip over the advancing Muslera drifted wide.
Fortune, however, was on Walcott’s side when he made the 39th minute breakthrough.
Finding himself in space on the left hand flank, Walcott whipped in a right-footed cross that drifted between Muslera and his Galatasaray’s defensive line before creeping inside the far post.
Arsenal’s half-time lead was deserved but the introduction of Drogba and Wesley Sneijder at the interval lifted the visitors, who immediately looked more threatening as Nordin Amarabat forced Wojciech Szczesny into a save at his near post.
Olivier Giroud appeared for Arsenal in place of Sanogo and twice forced saves from Muslera.
But Drogba was always likely to make his presence felt and the forward struck his 78th minute spot-kick past Szczesny after going to ground following the slightest of touches from young Arsenal defender Ignasi Miguel.
And the Ivorian – who scored 15 goals in 15 appearances for Chelsea against Arsenal – sealed the victory with an excellent piece of one-touch control and a fine left foot finish in the 87th minute.
Earlier Porto had romped to a 3-1 victory over Rafael Benitez’s Napoli.
Goran Pandev had given Napoli a 43rd minute lead from the penalty spot but Benitez’s side were unable to hold on.
Second half goals from Nabil Ghilas and Lica, either side of an own goal from Federico Fernandez, did the damage for Porto.
