I Take Political Risk In People’s Interest - Mimiko
At a thanksgiving service held at the Chapel of Grace, Government House, Akure, Mimiko said he had taken numerous risks in the course of his political career that spanned 30 years for the purpose of rendering service to his people.
He, therefore, assured unemployed youths in the state of gainful employment, promising that they would soon witness “the wonders of God.”
A statement by the state Commissioner for Information, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, cited the governor as saying these. Mimiko was also quoted in the statement as hinging the promise of the gainful employment on the near completion of the state’s Power Project, with its refinery, fertiliser and petrochemical industries underway.
According to the statement, Mimiko also stressed this while addressing the people of the state, who came to congratulate him on last Thursday’s Supreme Court verdict that affirmed his victory in the October 20, 2012 governorship election.
Assuring the people of “more dividends of democracy”, Mimiko said the state power project at Omotosho, being planned to provide stable electricity supply for industries in the state and with a view to wooing more investors to the state, was almost completed.
He expressed the hope that soon many Nigerians would come to the state in search of greener pastures, adding that “youths will smile because efforts are on to industrialise the state through the establishment of refinery, fertiliser and petrochemical plants.”
The statement also quoted him as saying, “God sees my heart that I am working for the progress of the people of Ondo State. Our youths, who are jobless, will soon see the wonders of God. You will know that God is behind Ondo State in terms of job opportunities that will soon open up.
“Many Nigerians will come to Ondo State for greener pastures and our youths will smile. We have decided to lift our youths from the brink of poverty and joblessness, and we are not looking back.”
Mimiko added that his administration had vowed to benchmark Ondo State on the map of Africa for good governance and development, and would ensure such came into reality in all sectors of the state's economy.

Man Kidnaps Self, Demands N2million Ransom From Brothers
The police in Enugu State have arrested one Samuel Ani after he allegedly “kidnapped himself” and demanded N2 million ransom from his brothers.
Samuel saw his own kidnap as the quickest way of getting financial assistance from his brothers, who he labeled “stingy fellows”.
However, it has ended up badly for the coffin dealer, an indigene of Ugwuaji, Enugu South Local Government Area.
It was gathered that he faked kidnap and hid himself for six days at a bush behind his shop situated at Gariki axis of Awkunanaw also in Enugu South, from where he was making telephone calls to his two younger brothers in a very convincing tone that he had been abducted and that the sum of N2 million was required to get him out of the purported kidnappers den, else he would be killed.
The spokesman of the police in Enugu State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, who confirmed the incident disclosed that the case was reported to the State Police Command, which mobilized its anti- kidnapping unit.
According to him, “when Samuel intensified his call that the purported kidnappers were on the verge of killing him if his people cannot bring the money, which was later reduced to N1.2m, some amount of money was sent across to the accountnumber provided by the purported kidnappers and a certain girl who went to cashthe sum of initial N100, 000 sent into the account in one of the new generation banks located around Agbani road axis on 29/8/13, was tracked and picked by the operatives.
“Her revelation led to the arrest of Samuel who disclosed that he was not kidnapped but that he kidnapped himself so that his wealthy younger brothers can pay money for ransom which he will use to sort out his business dealings”.

Nelson Mandela Discharged From Hospital
Mr Mandela’s discharge this morning from Pretoria’s Mediclinic Heart Hospital comes a day after confusion in the Mandela family over whether the 95-year-old former president had in fact been sent home.

Mr Mandela, whose condition is described as “critical" and "at times unstable," was admitted to hospital June 8 suffering from a recurring lung infection.
His home in the upscale Houghton neighbourhood of Johannesburg, already fitted with a hospital-like clinic, has been reconfigured to allow him to receive intensive care there, according to the statement issued by South African President Jacob Zuma’s spokesman.
Mr Mandela’s doctors “are convinced that he will receive the same level of intensive care at his Houghton home that he received in Pretoria.” “If there are health conditions that warrant another admission to hospital in future, this will be done,” the statement said.

NTA Refuses Reporting Atiku, Seven Governors Walk-Out Of PDP Convention
We can authoritatively report that the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Nigeria’s public television, yesterday evening on its prime 9 p.m. news avoided reporting Saturday’s historic crisis at the ongoing Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Special Convention in Abuja, thereby once again taking sides with President Goodluck Jonathan and the ruling party and betraying the facts.
At the convention, the ruling party openly and embarrassingly split in two, with several governors and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar walking away and immediately formalizing their own faction. There were also fisticuffs among delegates from Anambra State, but the NTA, preferring politics to professionalism, did not report that, either.
As monitored by mass media, NTA reported President Jonathan’s address and of Vice President Namadi Sambo. It also carried two slide stories of Senate President David Mark and that of Benue State governor, Mr. Gabriel Suswan, after which the station continued with its live broadcast of the votes cast in Eagles Square, venue of the convention.
NTA is under the supervision of Mr. Labaran Maku, Nigeria’s Minister of Information, as well as a board appointed by the president, which protect the PDP’s government interests in the company. The editorial staff, according to a source, has been mandated to report only pro-Jonathan stories and turn down any material offensive to him.

President Jonathan Dozed Off At Convention, His Control Of PDP Significantly Weakened
President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday dozed off several times at the mini-convention of the Peoples Democratic Party at Eagles Square in Abuja where several governors elected on the party’s ticket walked out on him to join a political group led by former Vice President Abubakar Atiku.
In all, eight governors, the latest being Governor Usman Sa'idu Nasamu Dakingari of Kebbi, walked out on Mr. Jonathan’s PDP, leaving the visibly bewildered president in the cold. Other PDP governors who decamped to the Atiku-led group included Chibuike Rotimi of Rivers State, Sule Lamido of Jigawa, Babangida Aliyu of Niger, Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano, Abdulfatah Ahmed of Kwara, Aliyu Wamakko of Sokoto and Muritala Nyako of Adamawa state.
An aide to one of the governors who left told Reporters that several other PDP governors had made a commitment to join their group soon. “Within the next two to three weeks, the PDP will discover that it is a party of Dr. Bamanga Tukur, President Jonathan and Governor [Godswill] Akpabio,” said the source.
An aide to President Jonathan told Reporters this evening that the president knew there was disaffection within the party, but was not expecting the move made by Mr. Atiku and the group of governors who followed him. The aide said it was as if Governor Akpabio of Akwa Ibom was the sole PDP governor who was solidly behind the president. But the aide promised that both President Jonathan and the PDP were capable of weathering the storm and rallying to win the 2015 elections.
“The truth is that Alhaji Atiku is a certified loser,” said the presidential aide. He added: “So, even though he did what he did today and is enjoying his laughter, we are going to have the last laugh. In fact, you will see that Atiku is going to beg to be accepted back to the PDP as he did before. Anybody who is following him is following political failure.”
Meanwhile, our correspondent at the venue of the convention described Mr. Jonathan as looking stunned by today’s developments. The president sat alone talking to himself and shaking his head several times without anyone coming to his aid. Our correspondent noted that even those who sat close to Mr. Jonathan, like the party’s divisive national chairman, Bamanga Tukur, and Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State did not utter a word of consolation to the forlorn-looking President. Vice President Namadi Sambo simply looked away as the party that brought them to power was being torn to pieces.
For the first time since the formation of the party, most hired delegates left the Eagles Square even before voting started.
Many of the stands were near empty as a significant number of the delegates followed their governors out of the venue of the convention with Mr. Jonathan looking on helplessly.

Boko Haram Slaughters 54 Innocent Souls In Borno
Atleast 54 people including 24 vigilante youths (Civilian JTF), 14 Shuwa Arab herdsmen and 16 civilians were killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists in three different Local Government Areas of Monguno, Damboa and Nganzai in Borno state.
Gunmen killed 14 nomadic herders in an attack on a village in the north eastern state of Borno, local government representative Alhaji Garba Ali told reporters.
At least 24 members of a vigilante group were killed in a separate attack in a forest in the same state, said another local official who asked not to be named.
The attackers were wearing military uniforms and the vigilantes followed them into the forest, believing them to be government soldiers, the official said.
"They took them to the middle of the forest before descending on them," he said. "About 24 bodies have been discovered, while 34 other persons are still missing."
The military has encouraged the formation of vigilante groups to help it track down Boko Haram members as it pursues an offensive in the northeast aiming to end the Islamist extremists' four-year insurgency.
Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the northeast in May and the military immediately launched a major offensive in the region aiming to end Boko Haram's insurgency.
Boko Haram's insurgency has left more than 3,600 dead since 2009, including killings by the security forces, who have been accused of major abuses.

Boy Who Hid Inside An Arik Plane Tyre Still In Detention-Family Pleads For His Release
Miss Sonia Oikhena, elder sister of the 13-year old Nigerian stowaway boy (Daniel Oikhena, a Junior Secondary School (JSS) II)who flew from Benin to Lagos inside the wheel compartment of an aircraft, has appealed for his release from custody.
During a press conference in Benin on Saturday,Sonia said family members were worried that Daniel was still in detention eight days after the dramatic event.
She urged the Federal Government to order the security agencies to release the youngster to his family.
She expressed concern that there had been no contact with the family by those holding Daniel.
Desmond said his brother got the idea of hiding inside the wheel of an aircraft from foreign movies he often watched.
During a press conference in Benin on Saturday,Sonia said family members were worried that Daniel was still in detention eight days after the dramatic event.
She urged the Federal Government to order the security agencies to release the youngster to his family.
She expressed concern that there had been no contact with the family by those holding Daniel.
“The only contact the family had with the security agents was when the SSS in Benin invited their mother for questioning.’’Desmond said he was not however surprised when the news came to them last Sunday that Daniel was in Lagos.
This, she stressed, had placed the family in a difficult situation over the issue.
“There has been no word from the security agencies as to where the boy was being detained or his state of health.
“We are worried and do not know where my brother is and his present health condition after flying in such a risky position.
“My brother should not be held culpable over the security lapses at the airport.
“If there had been tight security at the airport, he wouldn’t have succeeded in taking that risk of flying through the wheel of an aircraft.”On his part, Desmond, (9), the immediate younger brother, appealed for his brother’s release “because he acted out of ignorance.’’
Desmond said his brother got the idea of hiding inside the wheel of an aircraft from foreign movies he often watched.
“Daniel has been telling us about plans to travel to America by hiding inside the wheel compartment of an aircraft.
“We slept in the same room the night before the incident and we were surprised when he woke up so early.
“He packed his school bag, removed the books and replaced them with some of his clothes and hung his rosary on his neck.
“He quietly walked out without anybody knowing his destination. When my mother started looking for him, I told her to go to the airport to search for him based on what he has been telling us.
“I want my brother released to us. We are missing him and want him back home. My family is not happy over the continued detention of our brother.
“He is just a child and must have acted out of ignorance; he needs brotherly love and guidance.
“We are appealing to those responsible for his detention to please consider us because we have no money to fight any case”, the Desmond pleaded.
‘Black Jesus’ Cult Leader Hacked To Death (See Photo)
Steven Tari, a convicted Molester, had been on the run since escaping from a prison in Madang in the Pacific nation's east during a mass break-out with 48 others in March this year.
Sylvester Kalaut, the Madang police chief, said on Friday that Tari and one of his followers were killed at a village about 20km outside Madang on Thursday as they were attacking a young woman.
"He is now dead and this could be the fate of the others who are also on the run from authorities and I am warning and strongly urging those escapees to surrender themselves to authorities," Kalaut told the PNG Post-Courier.
Tari, a failed Lutheran pastor who was widely known as Black Jesus, was found guilty in 2010 of Molesting girls who belonged to his Christian-based sect and sentenced to up to 10 years.
As part of his "culture ministry", he preached that young girls were to be "married" to him as it was God's prophecy.
Kalaut said the woman Tari was in the process of attacking was "a flower girl tricked into joining the cult", adding that angry villagers had surrounded him and his companion and killed them.
His death follows that of a young high-school girl about a week ago, a murder alleged to have been carried out by Tari.
When he was captured in 2007, there were widespread allegations that his cult also practised cannibalism and sacrificial blood rituals, but police only charged him with molestation.
PNG is a sprawling nation where black magic, sorcery and cannibalism sometimes occur.
Last year, police arrested dozens of people linked to an alleged cannibal cult accused of killing at least seven people, eating their brains raw and making soup from their manliness. -

Commercial Motorcyclists Stage Protests Again In Ikorodu
Commercial motorcyclists, popularly called ‘okada riders’ in Sabo area of Ikorodu, Lagos today embarked on yet another protest against the policeman who shot and killed their colleague.
According to witnesses, the fracas began when the motorcyclists went to Sabo and burnt tyres to prevent movement of motorists and other road users.
Policemen attached to Shagamu Road Police Division had to scurry for safety when the irate motorcyclists started causing problems.
It took the intervention of members of the Vigilante Group of Ikorodu, VGI, popularly known around the area as ‘Onyabo’ to ensure sanity was restored to the ever-busy road.
Proprietor of the vigilante group who spoke to PM News, Chief Kamorudeen Bombata, said that he was very unhappy with the recent turn of events as the motorcyclists had been asked to allow the law take its due course.
He further noted that the Policemen did not try too hard to stop the okada riders because it may end up in a similar fashion as the recent killing of one of them.
“I was at Imota for their Oro Day celebration when I received a call that motorcyclists were on rampage again at Sabo. I had to take permission from the paramount ruler to salvage the situation since I learnt that policemen did no’t want to get too involved.
“I’m not happy with this recent development because the okada riders and their leaders have been called to order after the killing of one of them. We had to wade in because we work with the king and we are not afraid of dealing with any criminal” he said.
The Chairman of the okada riders in the area, Kayode Jimoh, however refused to take responsibility for the recent attack on policemen as he claimed that the act was perpetrated by his counterparts from Ikorodu North LGA.
“I was in the house when the DPO of Shagamu Road Police Division called to inform me that my people had started making trouble again but I denied it because all our boys have been working here at Ojubodean Ladega and its environs.
“The fire was set up by boys from the other side, Ikorodu North, it has nothing to do with our boys here, whatsoever” said the man popularly called Jendor.
The incident crippled activities in the area as residents, market men and women, motorists went into hiding for fear of being hit by stray bullets if it turns into an awry situation.

Within few days of the upload, the nude photographs went viral on social media, exposing Tolulope to ridicule and shame.
Consequently, the three bad guys were rounded up and arrested. They have been arraigned before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, Lagos State, for kidnapping and raping.
According to police, after assaulting her, Babajide, Mayowa and Ajayi also attempted to murder Tolulope on the day of the incident in April, 2013.
