The Osun State Police Command has arrested a 35-year-old vulcaniser, Ademola Simiyu, of Ile Olode in Ikoyi for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter.

Simiyu, a father of three, allegedly committed the act on Wednesday, October 23, when he woke up the girl at about 12 midnight while she was sleeping with her siblings and forcefully had carnal knowledge of her.

ASUU To Call Off Strike This Week

Indications have emerged that the Academic Staff Union of Universities may call off the over four-month-old strike on Thursday.

Barring a last-minute change, the National Executive Committee of ASUU will meet on Wednesday night to consider the position of the congresses of the over 50 public universities on the offer made by the Federal government to revamp the institutions.
The union met with a Federal Government team led by President Goodluck Jonathan last Tuesday in Abuja.

The ASUU leadership, after briefing the zonal coordinators on the offer, had directed the local branches to organise congress meetings between Friday last week and Tuesday (tomorrow).

Eaglets Get N2m Each, National Honours

President Goodluck Jonathan on Sunday announced a cash gift of N2m each for all the players of the nation’s Under-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, who won the 2013 FIFA Under-17 World Soccer Championship on Friday in Abu Dhabi, United Emirates.

The players, their handlers and key members of the Nigerian Supporters’ Club, according to the President, will also be honoured with national honours during the next award ceremony.

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old robber, Prince Nwafor, with a visual recording of a robbery operation that he took part in.

According to police authorities, the suspect is part of a robbery gang that specialises in snatching vehicles in Lagos and selling them at low prices.

The gang was also alleged to have robbed in Ebonyi and Anambra states.

Will ASUU Strike Continue? ASUU To Decide On That By Next Week Monday

The strike of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has entered its fourth month, and lecturers of the government-owned universities will on Monday hold a referendum to make some decisions. Local chapters of the Union in each campus have invited members for the crucial meeting during which they will be briefed on the outcome of the 13-hour long meeting ASUU Executives had with the President Goodluck Jonathan and other officials of the Federal Government.

President Jonathan Approves $4 Billion for Electricity Transmission In Nigeria

President Goodluck Jonathan has approved the sum of $4 billion to boost electricity transmission in the country.

The Minister of Power and Steel, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, disclosed this on Friday at the official commissioning of 1 X 150MVA, 330/132kv Transformer at Ayede 330/132kv Substation, Ibadan, Oyo State capital.

Nebo added that the president had also approved a master plan for a national grid which will provide power to all rural areas in the country.
