52-year-Old Woman Arrested For Stealing Turkey

The Police in Lagos State have arrested a 52-year-old woman, Rebecca Aina, for allegedly stealing and killing a live turkey, belonging to the traditional leader of Ilaje community in the state, Chief kayode Aiyetiwa, while a manhunt has begun to arrest her husb
and and two others, who are on the run.

The woman had been arraigned before an Ogudu Magistrate Court, presided over by Mrs O. Awope, the Chief Magistrate of the court, who granted her a bail of N50, 000, with a reliable surety, who is gainfully employed. The magistrate also ordered that she should be remanded at Kirikiri Prison, pending her meeting of the bail condition.

Crime&Security gathered that the woman was arrested after the area commander in charge of Area H, Ogudu, called for the transfer of the case from Pedro and Bariga police stations, where the suspects and the community leaders had reported their cases.
Meanwhile the woman, who initially denied stealing the turkey, insisting that she bought it in Ikorodu area of the state, has confessed to the police that she did not buy it.

A police source, while speaking with Crime&Security, narrated that: “On August 24, the woman and her family and two of her husband’s friends, who are now at large, stole and killed a live turkey belonging to the Baale.”

He continued that, “the Baale told us that when he got to their apartment, they confessed and begged him to temper justice with mercy and promised to come and see him three days later. They did not see him, but when the man returned to their apartment, they went to make a report of assault against him.”

Crime&Security gathered that when the community head saw the sudden change of attitude from them, he reported at the Bariga Police Station.

While the Police at Pedro where the woman was reported, was prosecuting a case of assault against the Baale and his aide, the Police at Bariga were investigating a case of theft.

The case was eventually reported at the Ogudu area command and both parties were invited. Upon interrogation, Mrs Aina, denied stealing the turkey and lied that she bought it in Ikorodu and even expressed her readiness to take the police to where she bought it.

It was however, a mild drama as the alleged seller of the turkey denied selling turkey to the woman. The seller even stated that the last time that she sold live turkey was during the last yuletide period.

Mrs Aina reportedly confessed to the police that she did not actually buy the turkey and was arraigned on four count charges which are; conspiring to commit felony, stealing, giving false information to the Police that her husband was in the hospital and giving false information that she actually bought the turkey, which are all punishable under criminal code laws of Lagos State.

The woman pleaded not guilty and was granted bail by the presiding magistrate.
